Schmokelberg's Razor

Never excuse malice because of stupidity

Schmokelberg's Razor

Hanlon's Razor holds that one should:

"Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by neglect/stupidity".

After a lifetime of observing human nature and in particular certain stupid but malicious politicians, the famed Quimbo Schmokelberg took issue with this formulation and came up with Schmokelberg's Razor:

"Never attribute to stupidity that which can be adequately explained by malice".

Or as a less assertive formulation:

"Never discount malice as a motivation because of obvious stupidity".

Or as an ethical principle:

"Never let obvious stupidity excuse malice".

Or the take-home formulation of that principle:

"Never excuse malice because of stupidity"
